Savanna Boggess couldn’t leave. She just couldn’t leave the church parking lot. What she’d heard about God’s mission demanded her obedience.
“I went on my phone right after church in the parking lot,” she said. “I was so captivated, and I felt my heart being drawn to Togo and the mission God has here.”
So, in January 2022, she sat in her car, tapping on her smart phone, filling out the thorough application for a Converge International Ministries internship. Eventually, the process became too much for a phone.
“I had to go home and finish,” she said. But she did finish and arrived in Togo in the summer of 2022.
The local church changes a life and prepares a servant
The native of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, attended church as a baby with her whole family. However, struggles and choices among her family distracted her for several years.
Then, she met a coworker who worshiped in a local church. She went to that church, joined a small group and later started a one-to-one discipleship relationship.
By January 2022, she’d restored her relationship with Christ and surrendered her life. That’s when, in God’s perfect timing, she heard about the 6 Degree Initiative in Togo and Benin, one of the world’s least-reached regions.

Finding a ministry among kids, the Deaf
During her 2022 summer internship, she met a deaf child, Dossé, and Mawussé, a pastor who serves deaf people in Togo’s capital.
“That really changed my heart for the Deaf population and how unreached they are around the world,” she said.
Because of that need, Converge now has a team focused on asking God for a gospel movement among the Deaf in our generation. They are the least-reached of the world’s least-reached.

Boggess’ internship motivated her to become a resident, a one-year commitment to keep learning French, serving the Deaf and helping with children’s ministry.
She regularly leads a Discovery Bible Study in French with 10- and 11-year-olds. The app on her phone allows kids to read God’s word in French, understand discussion questions and grow in their faith.
“Each week, they’ll come and tell me how they’ve shared the gospel,” she said. “The mindset of our team is pouring into our young leaders, so they pour into younger leaders and pour into the community.”
No wonder she couldn’t leave the church that day a few years ago.
