The cultures of Ireland and the United Kingdom are increasingly secular. Millions of people live in communities with no gospel-centered church, have never heard the gospel message and have no relationships with Christ-followers. More and more people here identify as non-religious, atheistic or agnostic, especially among the younger generations. Financial prosperity fuels a predominantly materialistic focus, and immigration has resulted in greater diversity across the religious landscape.
The people & the place
Essex is a county of 2 million to the east from London. It is the fastest growing area of England where only 3% are connected to any church. Most people have never heard the gospel and have to travel outside their local community to get to a church. 35 church plants of 100 people would need to be planted in the next 10 year to simply sustain the number of church attenders at 3% of the population.
Mission Essex has a vision to see 10 healthy churches planted in 10 years to reach some of these local communities and is working together with other churches and with Converge to accelerate and come alongside the work. They are sharing resources, training, and experience to mobilize to the work of the gospel in Essex.
