Christ-centered, child-focused, church-based

Compassion was founded by a Converge (then known as Baptist General Conference) pastor in 1952. Pastor Everett Swanson had a huge heart for children living in extreme poverty, and launched a ministry that now serves 1.3 million children in 26 countries around the world.

Each Compassion project, linked strategically with a Christ-centered church in the community, offers Bible teaching and discipleship training, nutritional meals, health care assistance, prenatal and postnatal training and care for mothers, personal mentoring and career guidance and training for older teens. Sponsorships from individuals and churches in the U.S. and in other nations, provide the resources to transform the system of poverty in the name of Jesus.

To expand this ministry partnership across our region, Converge MidAtlantic is challenging every member church to consider scheduling a “Compassion Sunday.”

Converge knows the value strong churches add to people, communities and nations, and it shows through a commitment to strengthen churches by investing in leaders. Our church is much more effective in reaching people for Christ because we’re stronger spiritually, organizationally and relationally.
